Trek Grading for Sherpa Heritage Trails
This trek grading should be considered as a guideline only and is designed to give you an idea of the participation required.
Easy :
These treks can be enjoyed by anyone who leads a reasonably active life. Generally, these types of trekking are between 4 and 9 days long, the maximum altitude is 4000 m, and the average of 5 walking hours per day. Accommodation is a teahouse.
For Example, Pikey Peak trek and Poon Hill.
Moderate:
During these treks, hill walking experience is desirable. Generally, these types of trekking are between 9 and 17 days long, and the maximum altitude is 5000 m. These trips are a mixture of some longer and shorter day walks. The walking hours are usually no more than 7 hours a day. Accommodation is mostly a teahouse, but on a few occasions, camping.
For example: Everest Base Camp & Kala Patar, Annapurna Base Camp , and Langtang & Helambu.
Strenuous :
This grade demands previous experience in trekking. Generally, these types of trekking are between 16 and 20 days long, with a maximum altitude is 5700 m. During the trek, you cross one or more mountain passes of 5000+ m. The walking hours are between 6 and 9 hours a day. Accommodation can be a teahouse or camping, or a combination..
For example: Everest Three Passes Trek, Annapurna circuit, Manaslu Circuit and Makalu Base Camp.
Adventurous:
These treks may require a degree of mountaineering skills, and you should be capable of carrying on normally at an altitude of 4000-5000 meters. Generally, these types of trekking are between 19 and 30 days long, with a maximum altitude is 6000+ m. Daily walking is approximately 7 hours, but on some occasions can be more than 9 hours. Accommodation can be a teahouse or camping, or a combination.
Peak climbing is also categorized adventurous.

Expedition:
Expedition simply more than trekking and peak climbing, which is for professional climbers or those who are experts in climbing activities. Nepal offers many popular mountains for mountaineering and expedition experience.
