The Nar Phu valley is located east of Upper Mustang, close to the Tibetan border. The remote region is a preserved area where you will discover Tibetan culture.
Nar Phu valley trek starts with a tourist bus to Besisahar, and onwards by jeep to Dharapani. The first few days you follow the Marsyangdi river. After Timang you will leave the famous circuit trail and enter the Nar Phu valley restricted area. In the middle of the forest at Chhauchha, you will spend a night acclimatization. In one day you climb out of the forest onto the colorful Tibetan plateau. In a few days, you will reach Phu Goan. The village is set on a hill and is built in a typical Tibetan style. Opposite the village is a hill where the Tashi Lakhang monastery is located. The monastery is surrounded by chortens and mani walls. You can visit the monastery area or hike an acclimatization excursion day towards the Himlung Base Camp.
After that, you descend back along the Nar Phu Khola river to the monastery of Naar Phedi. At their guesthouse, you will spend the night. The next day you trek onward to the remote village of Nar. Like Phu, the Tibetan style houses are still in use. In Nar, you have the afternoon for the last preparations for the pass. The next morning you wake up early to pass the Kanga La pass towards Ngawal. You can see the famous mountains from the pass like the Annapurnas and Dhaulagiri. Once you are in Ngawal you are back on the Annapurna trail. In Chame, the Nar Phu valley trek ends and a drive by jeep and tourist bus takes you back to Kathmandu.
However, it is possible to extend the trek with the Annapurna Circuit trek, or a visit to Tilicho Lake.
