Tent Peak is locally known as Tharpu Chuli and is located in the heart of the Annapurna region. The peak is located above the Annapurna Sanctuary. The name of the peak, Tent Peak, was chosen because of the shape of the mountain peak. You will take the trail to Poon Hill first for acclimatization. After Poon Hill you will trek to Annapurna Base Camp from where you will start your ascend to the summit. Tent Peak is a challenging peak but not as challenging as Island Peak in the Everest region.
After your arrival we will have a gear check with you, and make all the necessary preparations for the permits. The adventure begins with a day drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara which is situated at Lake Phewa. The first day you will hike through lush rhododendron forest and past waterfalls. At Ghorepani you will get up early to climb up to Poon Hill to witness the beautiful sunrise over the Annapurna massif. At Annapurna Base camp we do final preparations for the ascend. After leaving ABC you will be sleeping in tents, and porters will cook meals for you. Towards high camp the climbing Sherpa will prepare fixed ropes and you will need your climbing gear to get to camp. From high camp you will start early in the morning for your ascend of Tent Peak / Tharpu Chuli. The summit day is a long day due to a technical climb over a rock wall, and a steep snow slope of 70 degrees towards the summit. The views from the summit are overwhelming. You can see the entire Annapurna massif, and especially the characteristic Machapuchre ( Fishtail) is suddenly nearby and even more impressive as it was during the trek. The other mountain peak you can see from the summit are Annapurna I, Annapurna III, V, Gangapurna and Annapurna South. From the summit you descend the same trail back towards base Camp. In a few days you will trek the Annapurna Base Camp trail again back towards Birethanti. A short drive will take you to Pokhara which is a perfect place to relax after the climb.
