Introduction

Chulu West Peak is a famous trekking peak in the Annapurna region. It’s worth noting that there are two Chulu climbing peaks. These are Chulu East and Chulu West. Chulu West is higher in altitude than East, and with an easier climb, it is also more famous. From the summit, you will have spectacular views of the nearby Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, and Nilgiri. Some trekkers crave more than the standard circuit experience. In that case, Chulu West Peak provides that thrilling alpine challenge.

Chulu West Peak Overview

Once you arrive in Nepal, we’ll have a gear check and make all the necessary preparations for the Chulu West Peak permits. The adventure begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar. This is a vibrant village where the Annapurna circuit begins. The village also serves as the ending point of the Manaslu circuit trek. Next, you’ll drive further into the valley towards Dharapani. Up to Manang, you will hike the easy but lovely trail of the Annapurna Circuit.

Leaving Leder, you’ll leave the famous trail and bend towards the Chulu West base camp. Here, you’ll have an acclimatization day and a chance to practice the jumar for ascending & descending. The next day, a slow climb will bring you to high camp. From the high camp, you will leave early in the morning for the ascent of the Chulu West Peak.

At the summit, you’ll have an amazing view all over the Annapurna region, Dhaulagiri, and towards the Upper Mustang valley. After savoring the summit, you’ll descend to Thorung Phedi, where you’ll join the circuit trail again. A flight from Jomsom to Pokhara will end your Chulu West Peak climbing adventure. Finally, in Pokhara, you can relax at the shore of Phewa Lake.
