The Khumbu Monastery Trek is a special trek to the beating heart of the Everest region, the local Buddhist monasteries. During this trek you will be able to see the famous mountains of the Everest region, and meanwhile pass by local villages with their monastery.  Due to the fact that monasteries are not regularly open, we cannot promise you that you will be able to visit all monasteries. However, even from the outside, you can feel the spirituality of the local Buddhist Sherpa culture.

The monastery trek starts from Lukla airport; the gateway to the Everest area. From Lukla you walk to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar at 3440 meters. At Namche you will take a rest day for proper acclimatization. Here you can take an optional walk up to Everest View Hotel for another beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. A day hike will bring you to the hidden village of Thame with their monastery proudly standing upon a mountain ridge. Through forests of rhododendron, pines and oaks tree you hike to Khumjung. The monastery of Khumjung has been fully restored after the 2015 earthquake, and is now in full service again. Phortse is a village which offers great view into the Khumbu valley. Soon you leave Phortse you will see the famous Tengboche monastery. The mountain views from Thyangboche are spectacular with Everest standing proud next to Lhotse and Nuptse. Now you slowly descend towards Lukla for a flight back to Kathmandu.
