The Everest Base camp trail is by far the most popular EBC trek in Nepal. And with good reason. The trek is full with spectacular mountain views of the famous region. The two highlights of this trek is touching Everest BC, and the stunning view from Kala Patthar hill.
Before you can start the Everest base camp trail, you have to take a short flight to Lukla. This Sherpa village is located just outside of Sagarmatha National Park. Namche Bazaar is an important village for the local region and a pleasant place to stay for acclimatization day. It is best to do a day hike to the Everest view hotel to get adjusted to the altitude. In the coming days you continue the Everest Base Camp trail passing by the monasteries of Tengboche and Dingboche. Both are important Buddhist centers for the local Sherpa community. At Lobuche and Gorakshep is no more vegetation because of the altitude. A day hike brings you to Everest Base Camp which is the first highlight of the EBC trek. The mighty Khumbu icefall and its surrounding 8000+ meters mountains makes you feel quite humble. The second highlight of this trek is the sunrise view from Kala Patthar. This viewpoint offers a glorious vista of Mount Everest, and the icefall. After that you slowly track back, passing by Pheriche and onwards to the monastery of Tengboche. The Everest Base Camp trail ends in Lukla, from where you will take your flight back to Kathmandu.
