Muktinath trek landscape

If you want a shorter, comparatively easier and a low altitude trek to experience the Annapurna region, Pokhara to Muktinath trek is the perfect trek for you. With the natural beauty, easy trails and the holy site of Muktinath, it is famous among locals and foreigners alike.
From Kathmandu the trip takes you to Pokhara; a town situated at the foot of the Annapurna Mountains. Pokhara lies next to the Phewa Lake. A pleasant and comfortable place to relax and to enjoy the first glimpses of the Annapurna region.

Near Pokhara the trek begins. Hiking besides the rice terraces you rise higher every day. Each day passing through local villages and teahouses. In Ghorepani we get up early to walk up to Poon Hill. From here the sunrise on the entire Annapurna region is a most impressive spectacle. The Annapurna mountains, Dhaulagiri and Machapuchare, you will see them from this exquisite spot.
The following days the lush green valleys of the Annapurna region transform into the cold barren landscape of Mustang. Mustang is ,geographically, the extension of the Tibetan plateau and lies in the shadow of the Annapurna Mountains. The surrealistic landscapes are formed by drought and wind. Tibetan Buddhism still lives heavily among the population. You will pass by remote, traditional villages. The interesting destination is Muktinath. Hindus worship Muktinath as an incarnation of Lord Bishnu and believe that bathing in the holy taps here brings salvation after death. For Buddhists, it is a site where sage Guru Rinpoche meditated. From Jomsom it is a five hour drive back to Pokhara.
