The Khumbu 3 peaks challenge is the ultimate peak climbing experience in the Everest region. The total tour is a perfect circuit through the Khumbu region. We have set up this circuit with an itinerary which is perfect to acclimatize to the altitude, but also every peak is a bit more technical and challenging than the previous one. The Khumbu 3 Peaks challenge is a challenging peak climbing experience with some technical sections at Island Peak and Lobuche East peak.
After your arrival we will have a gear check with you, and make all the necessary preparations for the permits. The adventure begins with the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. The first few days you will be following the famous Everest Base Camp trail towards the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. At the Buddhist monastery you can ask for a puja ( blessing) for a safe climbing adventure. Soon after Thyangboche you will leave the Everest Base Camp trail and bend of towards the remote Chhukung valley. From Chukung you will ascend to Chukung Ri. A good start up for the two other peaks to come with lovely views from the summit. Island Peak base camp is located at an altitude of 5100 m near the huge Imja Lhotse Glacier. During your ascend you will have time to learn know how to use the jumar for ascending and descending. The final ascent to Island Peak begins with a scramble up a rocky gully to a ridge where you put on crampons and rope up for the glacier crossing heading towards the south ridge. The route across the glacier is easy-angled, but it can be crevassed in places. The base of the headwall is covered for 100 m with snow and ice. The climb is as steep as 45° before you arrive on the airy summit ridge. This is followed to the top, where you can enjoy fabulous views of Lhotse Shar, Makalu’s west face, the north face of Baruntse and Ama Dablam’s north ridge. In the course of the afternoon we want to be back in the base camp at Chukung. The crossing of the Kongma La pass towards Lobuche is a beautiful bonus in panoramic views in this trek. From Lobuche you will hike towards the Lobuche high camp. The tented high camp is near a lake in a rocky hollow at the base of the glaciated southwest face. Early in the morning you will leave the high camp for your ascend to the Lobuche East summit. Using the south ridge to the summit is the easiest and also the most popular route to the summit. From the summit of Lobuche East peak you will get amazing views of the famous Everest, alongside Lhotse, Nuptse and the Pumori. Summiting Lobuche ends the Khumbu 3 peaks challenge, and from Lobuche you will hike back towards Lukla.
A flight back to Kathmandu ends this peak climbing adventure.
