Tsum Valley

Short overview:
The remote Ganesh Himal Base camp trek in the Tsum Valley is an undiscovered trail. Tsum region is located nearby the border with Tibet in the Manaslu region. The entire landscape breathes ancient Buddhism. Tsum, or Chum, is a derived Tibetan word of Tsombo; which means vivid. During the Ganesh Himal Base camp trek, you will be accompanied by the ever-present Ganesh Himal mountain. Passing by local villages and ancient monasteries.

Overview:
A private jeep will bring you to the starting point of the Tsum Valley and Ganesh Himal Base camp trek. From the local village of Macha Khola, the trail begins. You start at a low altitude passing by small settlements and following the course of the Burhi Gandaki river. Soon after Jagat, you hike into the Tsum Valley. Here you will find yourself in pine and rhododendron forests. Climbing to the upper valley of Tsum you enter a wide and flat landscape at Chokang Paro and Chule-Nile. Nearby Chule-Nile is an ancient gompa (monastery) which is well worth a visit. The gompa also offers a beautiful viewpoint.

Mu Gompa is a few hours away located very close to Tibet. A beautiful day hike from this village into the valley takes you closer to the border. The biggest monastery in the region is in Mu Gompa and a visit should not be missed. The interior is beautifully painted with Buddhist murals. After that, you continue the Ganesh Himal base camp trek into the Ganesh Himal valley. In this side valley, you find the hidden gompa of Gumba Langtang. The Ganesh Himal BC is only a day hike away. After visiting the base camp you continue the trek to Ripchet. From here on you track back to Macha Khola where the Ganesh Himal Base camp trek ends. With a jeep, you will travel back to Kathmandu.
