This classic Everest Base camp trek is the original route towards the famous Everest Base Camp. Today, the largest group of trekkers flies directly to Lukla to start their adventure. But for many years, the EBC trek route began in Jiri. Due to bad road conditions to Jiri, we offer this classic route starting in Kari Khola. Starting from this little village in the Solukhumbu offers a number of benefits. You acclimatize considerably better, and the section to Lukla is a quiet trail. You will encounter fewer tourists, making it easier for you to make contact with the local Sherpa people.

The classic Everest Base camp trek begins with a jeep drive through the mountains to Paphlu and onwards to Khari Khola. On the first days, you walk through rhododendron and spruce forests. As you pass by through local villages, you encounter local life in the Khumbu. From day four you join the famous Everest trekking route starting from Lukla. A steady climb takes you to Namche Bazaar. The most important village in the region for the local Sherpa who lives here. A day hike to the famous Everest view hotel is a comfortable hike that will help in the acclimatization process. On top, the terrace of the hotel offers lovely views into the Khumbu valley with Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse lurking in the distance. The EBC trek continues to the Buddhist monasteries of Tengboche and Dingboche. Tengboche, locally known as Dawa Choling Gompa, has become a famous international monastery. Quite some Everest region climbers visit the monastery to receive blessings (Puja) for safe mountaineering. After Dingboche, you start to feel the altitude. So it is best to take your time, and slowly ascent towards Gorakshep. Along the trail, there are plenty of teahouses to take a break. Once you have arrived at the Everest Base Camp you are surrounded by the highest mountain peaks in the world. Also, the Khumbu icefall is impressive to look upon. You wake up early in Gorakshep to climb the easy peak of Kala Patar. Pumori mountain is impressively nearby. Kala Patar offers a great overall view of the Khumbu icefall and the mighty Mount Everest. As you track back, you will enjoy the mountain views you have missed on your way up. This classic Everest Base camp trek ends at the village of Lukla. A short flight will take you out of the mountains into the buzzing streets of Kathmandu.
