Helambu 6 days
Duration: 6 days
Trip level: easy (info?)
Maximum altitude: 3660 m
Season: January, February, March, April, May, September, October, November, December
This is a perfect trek for people who do not have much time for a longer trek, or do not want to travel far to their trekking destination. The Helambu region is a stone’s throw from Kathmandu, yet is curiously underrated and relatively remote.
During this trek you will have some of the most beautiful views of the Himalayas. The scenic trek leads through lush valleys and green rhododendron and pine forests. Along the trail you will encounter the ethnic Sherpa and the Tamang culture, and are able to visit their ancient Buddhist monasteries
The trek starts with a taxi drive from the busy city of Kathmandu. In the town of Sunderijal we start our hike through the Shivapuri National Park. This area looks more like a city park and is frequently visited by locals to get out of the city. Soon the noisy sounds of Kathmandu are replaced by the quiet sounds of local farmers and children playing on the trail. The first days you climb higher and pass through the local farm lands, valleys and green forests. At the highest point you will be able to witness some spectacular views of the Langtang mountain range with the Ganesh Himal and other snowcapped mountains. During the trek we pass several Buddhist monasteries and have a chance to visit some of these. From Kakani it is pleasant walk descending down towards Melamchi Bazaar were this trek will end.
